Prevent female infanticide
Infanticide is the intentional killing of infants. Neonaticide, killing within 24 hours of a child's birth, is most commonly done by the mother whereas infanticide of a child more than one day old is slightly more likely to be committed by the father.
In many past societies, certain forms of infanticide were considered permissible. In some countries, female infanticide is more common than the killing of male offspring, due to sex-selective infanticide
Female infanticide is leading to imbalance of sex ratio and
India has the most female infanticide cases as compared to other countries and it has to stop or else people will face lots of complicatedness in near future.
The steep downfall in the Child
Sex Ratio (CSR) is a prime indicator of women disempowerment in the country.
CSR puts a light on the pre-birth discrimination on the basis of gender that
manifests in the form of unacceptable practice of female infanticide.
Convergent efforts by
government agencies and NGOs are crucial to ensure survival, safety and
empowerment of the fairer sex. Under the scheme, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
district authorities are required to effectively monitor and ensure that the
use of sex-determination tools by families and doctors lead to stringent action
by law.
The Census conducted in 1971
pegged the child sex ratio, defined as the number of females per thousand males
in the age group 0–6 years in the Indian population, at 964. It dipped sharply
to 918 in Census 2011, A very worrying prospect of such a statistic is that an
imbalance in this age group will extend to older age groups in future years. Parents, families, doctors
and the community must be oriented to not resort to sex-determination during
pregnancy.
