BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO

There’s a powerful saying, “when you educate a man, you educate a man but when you educate a woman, you educate a generation”. This is because education is the key to empowering women and girls, which helps bring about social equality and have far-reaching effects within the entire society. Women make up for almost half of the total population of India but they still lag behind men in a lot of areas.

One such new initiative led by the government called 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' which means save the girl child, educate the girl child. Initially, the scheme covered 12 districts of Haryana because Haryana is one such state with least girl child sex ratio. It aims at making girls independent socially and also financially through education.
This scheme is not only for girls but also for the society as educating a girl child means educating the generation. Even though we have sufficient laws banning female foeticide, the problem has not gone away. In fact, it has only become worse. Through this scheme government does not need families not killing a girl child because the laws say so, or because they will be punished. They need them to not kill a girl because they want a daughter. People must celebrate having a baby girl.
Although due to various drives and sessions held by the government representatives in remote areas the mindset of people have changed. We can see the change in rural areas where maximum girls’ enrolments in schools is there. According to research, percentage of newborn girl foeticide has dropped as people have started giving importance to the existence of girls in the society. No doubt impacts are there, however, there is also a need to educate people at the basic level about the rights and also about the safety of a woman.
It’s a matter of happiness and satisfaction that society has started realising the importance of a girl child and there is a lot of importance of a girl child and there is a lot of improvement on a woman’s education and safety issues. Gradually, we are becoming a stronger and powerful society with the government’s motive of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'.
