MOBILE PHONES HAVE CHANGED THE LIVES OF PEOPLE!

“Technology is a queer thing;
It brings you great gifts with one hand
And stabs you in the back with the other.”
The same goes with the mobile phones which are believed to be one of the greatest inventions in this sector. Motorola introduced the first mobile phone in the twentieth century. In this era, where man is a slave of machines, life without mobile phones is beyond human comprehension. From a millionaire to a poor rickshaw puller, almost every person has a mobile phone. It is no longer a show-off gadget of the elite class. Communication is now a lot more easier and comfortable and has been taken to a whole new level with the introduction of third generation i.e 3G. technology. It has enabled better network coverage improved voice quality, video calling and high speed internet access.Geographical positioning system (GPS) which establishes satellite connection through the mobile phones, helps in tracking the users location and road maps allow shift navigation.
Since the time when cell phones were first introduced, they have undergone a drastic change. With the passage of time ,there size has been reduced considerably. They no longer serve only as a medium for communication but also as a replacement to various gadgets. The large capacity of inbuilt- memory is known to replace music players and mass storage devices, to a great extent. Third generation mobiles with keyboard and touchscreens have taken over personal computers and laptops by large numbers. High resolution lens and improved software for inbuilt cameras have reduced the use of video recorders and digital cameras. International calling is no longer tedious. Security of children, a major concern for parents in the present scenario has been tackled to a large extent with the lunch of geographical positioning system. Along with some suitable applications, one person can easily know where the other is. It is no longer a compulsion for businessmen to be present at their workplace, to enable the smooth working of the industry or office. With mobile phones, offices can be at one’s disposal.
There is however, the other side of the coin. Using cell phones for long hours can cause various health problems and extreme exposure to the signals has been found to cause non-curable ailments. Obesity, a lifestyle problem is now quite common among the youth. According to a latest report, sixty percent of the teenagers who are obese, have developed the condition due to lethargic lifestyles. Physical activities and games involving physical labour have been neglected for quite some times because mobile games are becoming more popular among children and teenagers. Latest researches are suggestive that long exposure to network signals and using mobiles when they are about to get discharged causes gradual degeneration of the nerve cells of the brain, causing brain cancer. Cell phones have become an addiction among the teenagers. With the launch of more and more sophisticated mobile sets, they have become a reason for peer pressure. Terrorist activities are also on a hike due to cheap and easy access to the same.

However, the advantages of mobile phones can overpower the disadvantages, if used wisely. They can prove to be just the opposite if put to use by destructive minds.
